Lacquer art enjoys a history of about 7,000 years. It is one of the three traditional Chinese handicrafts, together with porcelain and silk. Guilin lacquerware flourished in the middle of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and it mainly focused on making exquisite study and drinking utensils. Guilin lacquerware is made of natural materials, such as bamboo roots, calabash, lucid ganoderma and shells, which is as charming as Guilin’s scenery.
