The Sanyuesan (March 3rd Festival)

The Sanyuesan Festival of the Dong is also called “Planting Section”, “For Green Day” or “Fireworks Festival”. There was an old legend of the Dong: The residents of the Dong always set the time of flowers’ blooming of tung tree as the planting section. However, tung tree didn’t bloom one year, and the planting time was delay. Learned from that, the residents always play the reed-pipe wind instrument (Lusheng) and sing song, as well as visiting their families and friends and noticing them the planting. On the Sanyuesan, the Dong’s people always fight for the fireworks, cows, horses, songs, Caitang Dance, etc. Thus is is also known as the Fireworks Festival.
